Lawn Renovation and Sod Install

Linwood Landscape & Turf, LLC completed a lawn renovation in Linwood, KS that addressed grading, drainage, soil improvement, irrigation, and new sod installation. The project focused on creating a stable, well-drained base before installing turf, so the new lawn would establish quickly and perform well through seasonal changes.

We began by regrading the lawn to restore proper slopes and improve surface drainage. Regrading helps water move away from foundations and low spots, and it sets a consistent grade for the new sod. Our team worked carefully to match the existing contours where appropriate while correcting areas that had been holding water.

To further control runoff from the roof, we installed additional drainage tiles for the Gutter downspouts. These tiles carry downspout discharge away from the house and the lawn surface, reducing erosion and pooling. Installing drainage tiles at this stage ensured the irrigation system and new sod would not be overwhelmed by concentrated flow from the downspouts.

Next, we mixed approximately 30 cubic yards of compost into the existing topsoil across the yard. Blending compost into the topsoil improves soil structure, increases organic matter, and creates a better medium for root development. This soil amendment step is important for helping newly laid sod take root and for supporting healthy turf growth in the months after installation.

With grading, drainage, and soil preparation complete, we installed a professional irrigation system. The irrigation system was designed to provide even, reliable coverage for the entire lawn area, which is especially important during the establishment period for sod. Proper irrigation reduces stress on new turf and helps achieve a uniform, healthy stand of grass.

The project was finished by installing 20,000 square feet of professional grade tall fescue sod. Laying sod over well-prepared soil and pairing it with the new irrigation and drainage measures gives the homeowner a strong start for a durable, attractive lawn. Tall fescue was selected for its suitability as a turfgrass option in this region and for its ability to establish quickly when given proper soil and water.
